Char-Em ISD's AmeriCorps members recently spent the day at the Taylor School getting to know some of the students. Their tour and orientation including spending the afternoon in Sue Lechowicz's class helping the students create a model of our universe. There were more than enough stars in the room to make the project a huge success.

Long-time entertainer and substitute teacher Sean Ryan conveyed Michigan history and his knowledge of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald freighter recently to students at the Orion program. Ryan used maps and pictures to describe the weather pattern surrounding Michigan that fateful day, November 10, 1975. After explaining the role and importance of an iron ore carrier on the Great Lakes, Ryan finished the lesson by playing his guitar and singing the ever-popular Gordon Lightfoot song “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” Operated by Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District, Orion provides academic and emotional support to students with severe emotional and behavioral needs.
